GS Select is our house brand for composite. The composite is very high quality and sold at a very competitive price. Besides our own brand, you will also find colours from the Diresco brand in this category of worktops. That brand is best known for the best composite lookalike for Belgian bluestone, Diresco Belgian Blue.
Quartz composite scores well in terms of:
More information can be found on the properties and maintenance tabs.
Quartz composite consists of more than 90% quartz. Quartz is one of the hardest raw materials Mother Nature has produced after diamonds. A mix of resin and colouring agents is added to the quartz.
If necessary, pieces of glass or mirror glass are added to this mix to create an even more beautiful effect. Then, using a patented process, plates are pressed that retain the hardness and crystalline appearance of quartz and have properties that surpass all other materials.
Almost all quartz composite slabs are produced using the same machines from the Breton company, so there are only minor variations in quality. More expensive suppliers mainly stand out in terms of unique colours, designs and surface textures. On Breton's page you can see a list of manufacturers including all the ones we sell tops from: Caesarstone, Silestone and Diresco. Brands such as Compaq, Stone Italiana, Quarella and Santa Margherita can also be supplied on request – we do need a worktop sketch to provide a quotation.
Composite is not porous, so stains will not soak into the worktop. You should be careful with "harder" cleaning products such as chlorine, oven cleaner and sink unblocker, as these can damage the worktop beyond repair.
Composite consists of more than 90% quartz. As a result, it offers perfect scratch resistance. Normal use of knives etc. does not affect your worktop at all. However, because your knives can become blunt and material from the knives can leave marks on the worktop, we still recommend using a chopping board.
Composite is not completely heat resistant – a combination of temperature and volume can cause damage! Therefore, we recommend always using trivets with hot pans and oven dishes!
Regular cleaning with warm water and a neutral detergent is enough to maintain the worktop’s beautiful look year after year.
Composite is durable, so there is no need to impregnate or wax the worktop. Regular cleaning with warm water and a neutral detergent is enough to maintain the worktop’s beautiful look year after year.
Honed and burnt:
On honed and burnt worktops, grease marks and fingerprints are more likely to show up.
However, the closed surface prevents these stains from penetrating the worktop,
so they are still easy to remove.
You can remove stubborn stains with clear Cif, then wash off the detergent well again.
There are several ways in which the front of your worktop can be finished. Edge finishes not shown are often available on request.
For corner-shaped tops, we have the following options:
Back panels are basically intended for use with a hob. Thus, the entire back wall at the hob from worktop to extractor is clad in the same material as the worktop. Of course, you can also use these panels to clad the entire kitchen. The plates are 60cm high as standard but are available in any size.
Edging is strips up to 10cm high that are used as a finish on top of the worktop instead of tiles.
Edging is made of 12mm thick composite and can be ordered in any height. It is made of the same material as the worktop.
